Mobile mechanic Holbrooks, Coventry
Cars and vans repaired at home or at your business
D&E Auto Repairs to You cover Holbrooks, Little Heath, Rowleys Green and the businesses along Holbrook Lane. We work on cars and vans alike — at the house, or in the yard while the van is off the road anyway.
A working area, and we work around it
Holbrooks has always had one foot in industry. Holbrook Lane runs through the middle of it lined with trading estates and workshops, and the residential streets grew up around the factories rather than the other way round. That mix shapes the work we get called out to here more than anywhere else in Coventry.
Roughly speaking we get two kinds of Holbrooks callout. There is domestic work at the house — servicing, brakes, batteries, diagnostics, the usual. And there is commercial work, where somebody's van is the business and every day it sits waiting for a garage slot costs money. We handle both, and the second is where being mobile genuinely changes the maths.
Daryl and Kieran have over 30 years in the trade between them, both with main dealer experience on Mercedes-Benz trucks and vans. More about us here.
What we do in Holbrooks
Vans, and why mobile makes sense for them
If you run a van out of Holbrooks or one of the units along Holbrook Lane, the cost of a repair is rarely just the invoice. It is the day you did not work, the jobs you moved, and the lift you had to arrange to collect it. A garage that quotes fifty pounds less but keeps the van for two days is not the cheaper option.
We can work on a van at your yard, at a customer site, or on your driveway at home — and in most cases the vehicle is back in use the same day. Both of us spent time at a Mercedes-Benz truck and van main dealership, and Daryl started his career on large commercial vehicles before coming back to cars, so light commercials are familiar ground rather than an occasional favour.
Common van work we do here: clutches, brakes, batteries and charging faults, suspension worn out by weight, exhaust and DPF problems, and diagnostics on the kind of intermittent electrical fault that puts a van into limp mode at the worst moment.
Parking and access across Holbrooks
The interwar and postwar estate housing that makes up most of residential Holbrooks generally has driveways or space to pull off the road, and wider verges than the older parts of the city. That makes it comfortable to work in — we have room around the vehicle and we are not blocking anyone.
The older terraced streets nearer the Foleshill boundary are tighter, with on-street parking only. Still perfectly workable, but we need a reasonably clear kerbside space with room to get a jack and axle stands alongside the car safely. If your street fills up in the evenings, say so when you book and we will aim for a quieter time.
Business premises and yards are usually the easiest of the lot, as long as we are not obstructing loading or access. If you want us to attend a unit rather than a house, mention it when you call and we will confirm what we need.
What it costs
No callout fee is added to the bill. If the job is already identified — a clutch, brakes, a battery and charging fault — we quote one figure that covers parts, labour and coming out to you, whether that is your drive or your yard.
If we need to find the fault first, the diagnostic work is charged separately, because that is the part that takes the skill. For a working vehicle it is usually money well spent: a correct diagnosis first time beats replacing parts on spec and losing another day.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Holbrooks and Little Heath?
Yes. Holbrooks is well inside our regular patch and we cover Holbrooks itself along with Little Heath, Rowleys Green, Whitmore Park and the businesses along Holbrook Lane. We also work throughout the neighbouring areas of Coundon, Radford, Keresley and Foleshill.
Can you come to my business premises rather than my home?
Yes, and we do it often around Holbrook Lane. We can work at a yard, a unit or a customer site as long as we are not obstructing loading bays, fire access or other vehicles. Mention when you call that it is a business address and describe the space, and we will confirm what we need before attending.
Do you work on vans as well as cars?
Yes. Both of us have main dealer experience on Mercedes-Benz trucks and vans, and Daryl started his career on large commercial vehicles before moving back to cars. Light commercials are familiar ground rather than an occasional favour. We handle clutches, brakes, batteries and charging faults, suspension, exhausts, DPFs and diagnostics on vans of all makes.
My van is my income. How quickly can you turn a repair around?
That is exactly why mobile makes sense for a working vehicle. In most cases we diagnose and repair on the same visit and the van is back in use the same day, rather than sitting at a garage waiting for a slot. Call us with the registration and a description of the fault and we can usually tell you on the phone whether the parts are something we carry or need to order.
Do you charge extra to come out to Holbrooks?
No. There is no callout fee, and it makes no difference whether we come to a house in Holbrooks or a unit off Holbrook Lane. A known job gets one quote covering parts, labour and the visit. If the fault needs tracing first, the diagnostic work is charged separately.
My van keeps going into limp mode but the garage cleared the code and it came back.
This is one of the most common reasons people call us. Clearing a code does not fix anything - it just removes the evidence until the fault recurs. We use oscilloscope diagnostics to look at the actual electrical signal a sensor or actuator is producing, which tells us whether that component has failed or whether it is correctly reporting a problem somewhere else in the system. Tell us what has already been done when you call.
I am on a terraced street near the Foleshill end with no driveway. Can you still work?
Yes. What we need is a reasonably clear kerbside space with enough room to get a jack and axle stands alongside the vehicle safely. If parking on your street is usually tight by the evening, mention it when you book and we will aim for a time of day when it tends to be clearer.
Do you carry out MOTs?
No — MOT testing has to happen at DVSA-approved premises, so no mobile operation can offer it, for a car or a van. We do carry out pre-MOT checks though, and Kieran's 13 years as a licensed tester means he knows what an inspector will pick up on. Useful if a van failing its test would cost you a working week.
