About D&E Auto Repairs to You

The two mechanics behind the business — and why we do it this way

D&E Auto Repairs to You is Daryl and Kieran: two time-served mechanics with over 30 years of combined experience, main dealer training behind us, and a van that comes to your door instead of a garage you have to drop your car at.

Two mechanics, over 30 years, one van at your door

Both of us came up the traditional route: main dealer training, years in independent garages, and a steady stream of vehicles that arrived having already been somewhere else first.

We started D&E because we wanted to do the job properly — take the time to diagnose a fault correctly, explain it in plain English, and charge for the work that actually needs doing. Everything happens at your home, your workplace, or wherever your vehicle is. No drop-off, no courtesy car juggling, no waiting room.

Meet the mechanics

Kieran

20 years in the trade · NVQ Levels 1, 2 & 3

Kieran has spent his career moving between main dealer and independent specialist workshops. Three years at a Mercedes-Benz truck and van main dealership working to manufacturer standards, two years at a BMW independent specialist, and several more across general garages on all makes and models. He also has a couple of years of deputy manager experience running a workshop floor.

For over 13 years Kieran was a qualified MOT tester. He gave the licence up only when D&E went full-time mobile, because an MOT licence has to be tied to approved test premises.

Daryl

14 years in the trade · NVQ Level 2, time served beyond

Daryl started out on large commercial lorries before moving back to cars — a deliberate choice rather than a career accident. Heavy goods work teaches you to be methodical and to respect the consequences of getting something wrong, and that habit carried over.

He spent two years at a Mercedes-Benz truck and van main dealership and has since worked across multiple independent garages on all makes and models. He has also trained multiple apprentices over the years — teaching someone else to diagnose a fault properly is a good test of whether you understand it yourself.

To be clear: we do not carry out MOT tests. MOT testing can only legally take place at DVSA-approved premises with the required equipment, and we are fully mobile. What Kieran's 13 years as a tester does mean is that he knows exactly what an MOT tester looks for — which is why our pre-MOT checks tend to be blunt about what will and will not get through.

Why we find faults other garages have missed

A lot of vehicles come to us having already been somewhere else. The pattern is usually the same: a fault code was read, a part was replaced on the strength of it, and the problem came back a fortnight later.

A fault code tells you which circuit is unhappy. It does not tell you why. Daryl has completed diagnostic training in oscilloscope use, which means that rather than guessing from a code, we can look directly at the electrical signal a sensor or actuator is producing and see whether the component itself has failed — or whether it is reporting honestly about a problem somewhere else entirely.

That distinction is the difference between replacing a sensor three times and fixing a chafed wire once. It is slower up front and cheaper in the end, which is the trade-off we would rather make. Read more about our mobile diagnostics service.

How we work

No jargon

Want the full technical detail? Happy to go into it. Would rather just know what is wrong and what it costs? That is fine too.

Quote before work

You get the cost up front. If we find something else once we are into the job, we stop and tell you rather than adding it to the bill.

No unnecessary work

If a component has life left in it we will say so and check it again next time. That is how you keep customers for fifteen years.

All makes and models

Between main dealer, specialist and independent garage experience, there are very few vehicles either of us has not had the covers off.

Where we work

We are based in Coventry and cover the city and the immediate surrounding area, including Foleshill, Radford, Holbrooks, Longford, Binley, Earlsdon, Cheylesmore, Baginton, Bedworth and Kenilworth.

Staying local is deliberate. Time spent driving is time not spent fixing vehicles, and keeping our patch tight is what lets us reach emergency callouts quickly and keep our pricing where it is.

Speak to Daryl or Kieran — not a call centre

Frequently asked questions

Who will actually turn up to work on my car?

Daryl or Kieran. D&E Auto Repairs to You is the two of us — there are no subcontractors and no rotating agency staff. When you call, you speak to one of us directly, and one of us is who arrives at your door. Between us we have over 30 years of experience in the trade.

What qualifications do you hold?

Kieran holds NVQ Levels 1, 2 and 3 in vehicle maintenance and repair, and was a qualified MOT tester for over 13 years. Daryl is NVQ Level 2 qualified with 14 years of time-served experience beyond that, and has completed diagnostic training in oscilloscope use. Both of us have main dealer experience at Mercedes-Benz truck and van dealerships, alongside years in independent garages and specialists.

Do you carry out MOT tests?

No. MOT testing can only legally be carried out at DVSA-approved test premises with the required equipment, and as a fully mobile service we do not operate from fixed premises. Kieran did hold an MOT tester licence for over 13 years before we went mobile, so we can carry out a thorough pre-MOT check and tell you honestly what would pass and what would not — but the test itself has to be done at an approved centre.

Do you only work on certain makes of vehicle?

No, we work on all makes and models. Between us we have main dealer experience with Mercedes-Benz trucks and vans, specialist experience with BMW, and many years across independent garages working on everything that came through the door. Daryl also started his career on large commercial lorries before moving back to cars.

My car has already been to a garage and the fault is still there. Can you help?

This is one of the most common reasons people call us. A fault code tells you which circuit is reporting a problem, not what is causing it — which is how a part gets replaced without the fault going away. We use oscilloscope diagnostics to look at the actual electrical signal a component is producing, so we can tell whether the part has failed or whether it is correctly reporting a fault elsewhere. Call us and describe what has been done so far.

Why did you decide to go mobile rather than run a garage?

Because for most jobs it is simply better for the customer. You are not without a vehicle for a day, you are not arranging lifts or courtesy cars, and you are not paying towards a workshop's overheads. The large majority of repairs — servicing, brakes, clutches, suspension, alternators and diagnostics — can be carried out perfectly well on a driveway with the right equipment, and we bring it with us.

How far will you travel from Coventry?

We cover Coventry and the immediate surrounding area. Keeping our coverage tight is a deliberate decision — less time spent driving means faster response to emergency callouts and better pricing for customers, because you are not paying for our travel time. If you are unsure whether you fall within our area, call us on 0247 610 4000 and we will tell you straight away.
